Converse University Department of Theatre & Dance invites applications for an Instructor of Practice in Dance position beginning August 2025. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal. This position offers the opportunity to teach a range of courses spanning dance technique and theory. The candidate will teach four courses per year, not to exceed 11 credit hours, and will complete one major choreographic assignment each year, such as directing a dance concert or choreographing a musical. Additional duties include 1-2 admissions/recruitment events per semester and student mentorship appropriate for a part-time instructor.

Job Responsibilities: The candidate should be able to teach, choreograph, and recruit for the Department of Theatre & Dance. This includes choreographing and/or directing faculty & guest dance concerts, student dance showcases, and musicals, in addition to teaching introductory and upper-level studio courses in various techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in ballet, contemporary dance forms, and dance anatomy. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduates is essential.

Required Qualifications:

• An M.F.A. in Dance or a related field or commensurate professional experience with a baccalaureate degree
• Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of ballet and contemporary dance technique
• Significant professional experience teaching, choreographing, or performing dance
• Ability to work effectively with students, the public, and the University community with an appreciation for cultural and group differences
• Evidence of successfully promoting an environment that advances justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to teach in one or more of the following areas: dance anatomy, dance history, and/or dance composition
• Significant professional experience teaching, choreographing, and performing dance
• Collegiate teaching experience
• Certification in one or more somatic practice technique (Franklin Method, Pilates, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, etc.)
